Hostile creatures in the area must succeed on a DC 19 Wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 round; undead and fiends have disadvantage on attack rolls while the aura lasts. The aura sheds bright light in 40 feet and dim light for an additional 40 feet.

Harbinger's Wake Expend 3 charges to unleash a 40-foot cone of radiant energy. Each creature in the cone must succeed on a DC 19 Dexterity saving throw or take 8d8 radiant damage and be blinded for 1 round; on a successful save, they take half damage and are not blinded. The cone's energy lingers as dim light in a 20-foot radius for 1 minute.

The Codex of the Last Dawn was forged by the archmage Lymirath the Sable Archivist as a failsafe against catastrophe. It was sealed within a vault beneath a ruined city and survived the fall of empires, only to reappear in the hands of scholars who fear end-times and wish to avert them—or to wield the end itself.

History

Created over a century ago after a near-apotheosis failed, the Codex was bound with a vow to keep the apocalypse imprisoned. It has changed hands across continents, leaving cryptic clues and weathered ruins in its wake. Notable owners include Arin Voss, a chronomancer who kept its power in check, and Valara the Dusk-Watcher, who believed destroying the world would end all pain—and learned the book chooses its bearer as much as the bearer chooses the book.
