Codex of the Last Dawn
A centuries-old volume bound in charcoal-black leather, its cover etched with silver sigils that shimmer like starlight. The pages inside are a pale ash-gray, edges ember-orange when fresh, and the script shifts subtly as if alive. The book hums with a soft, mournful lullaby when opened, and a distant thunderclap seems to echo whenever a page is turned.
Lore
The Codex of the Last Dawn was forged by the archmage Lymirath the Sable Archivist as a failsafe against catastrophe. It was sealed within a vault beneath a ruined city and survived the fall of empires, only to reappear in the hands of scholars who fear end-times and wish to avert themโor to wield the end itself.
History
Created over a century ago after a near-apotheosis failed, the Codex was bound with a vow to keep the apocalypse imprisoned. It has changed hands across continents, leaving cryptic clues and weathered ruins in its wake. Notable owners include Arin Voss, a chronomancer who kept its power in check, and Valara the Dusk-Watcher, who believed destroying the world would end all painโand learned the book chooses its bearer as much as the bearer chooses the book.
