Oblivion Blade

⚔️ Weapon (longsword) Very Rare
requires attunement by a spellcaster
Damage 1d8 slashing
versatile (1d10)
Charges: 7 (regains at dawn)

A slender, double-edged longsword of pale steel that gleams with a cold light. The blade carries faint engravings of fading runes along its fuller, which glow silver when drawn. The hilt is wrapped in black dragonhide leather, and the pommel bears a small, black-on-silver insignia of an erased crown. The weapon feels unexpectedly light for its size, and the hush of time seems to cling to its edge when swung.

+2 to attack and damage This weapon grants a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls.
Oblivion Strike Whenever you reduce a creature to 0 hit points with this blade, you may expend 1 charge to erase that creature's existence from history within a 1-mile radius for 24 hours. All non-physical records—names on inscriptions, ledgers, tomb markings, and legends—vanish for the duration. Spells and effects that rely on knowledge of the erased creature (legend lore, identify with information about them, scrying on them, etc.) fail within the affected area. After 24 hours, the erased history reappears as if the creature had never been touched by the blade. If the blade has 0 charges when you would attempt to erase, the feature fails and nothing happens. The blade regains all expended charges at dawn.

Lore

Forged in the twilight between moments, the Oblivion Blade was said to be tempered by a chronomancer who sought to erase the worst tides of history. The first wielder used it to silence a tyrant whose great deeds shaded countless generations; ever since, the blade has moved through a rotating circle of guardians who believe history should be somewhat thinner than it appears. Bards claim the blade drinks from the memories of those it erases, leaving behind a silence where stories once thrived.

History

The blade passed from hand to hand among those who hunted tyrants and unchecked ambitions. Each owner swore to use it only when a victory would not come from mere bloodshed, but from making the world forget a danger entirely. Notable deeds include removing a warlord’s name from war chests and tombs, causing subsequent uprisings to falter as lines of succession and memory shifted without warning. Its origin is unknown, though many believe it was forged in a temple where time itself was said to be negotiable.
