The Second Pour
This squat tankard is fashioned from dark, polished horn banded in tarnished silver. Its handle is carved in the shape of a curled drinking serpent, whose tiny ruby eyes seem wet even when the vessel is dry. Fine silver lettering circles the rim, spelling the same toast in several dead languages: 'To the one who pours before me.' The inside is perpetually cool and faintly smells of whatever its unseen owner is drinking.
Lore
The Second Pour was made for a thirsty courtier who envied a distant king's legendary cellar. Its maker, an alchemist named Veyra Mourn, bound the tankard to the king's drinking habits so that every toast made in the royal palace could be echoed in the courtier's hands. The enchantment succeeded too well. The courtier began drinking whenever the king drank, then whenever the king was believed likely to drink, and finally whenever the tankard was empty. Within a year, the courtier had forgotten the taste of water and could speak of nothing but the king's appetite.
History
The tankard's previous owner was King Odran the Indulgent, who carried it during a failed peace summit with the frost giants of Skall. When Odran vanished beneath a glacier, the tankard passed through the hands of smugglers, soldiers, and tavern keepers. Each owner praised it as a gift that never ran dry, though several disappeared after becoming obsessed with discovering what its unseen source would drink next. Its current magical link remains tied to the last creature that truly owned it, not merely the last creature to hold it.
