Thimble of the Iron Vow
A tiny thimble forged from blue-black iron, polished until it reflects light like still water. Its rim is etched with a ring of minuscule oath-knots, while the crown bears a single silver stitch that never tarnishes. Though sized for a fingertip, it feels oddly substantial, and faint warmth pulses through it whenever its wearer breaks a promise.
Lore
The thimble is said to have been made by Old Marn, a seamstress who believed every grand oath was held together by one small, careful act. Her thimbles were given to kings, spies, and desperate children alike, each bound to perform some modest kindness before the iron would fully accept them.
History
The first known Iron Vow was recovered from the finger of a petrified tailor beneath a collapsed temple. The tailor had spent his final hours repairing the burial shrouds of strangers, and the thimble remained untouched despite the stone crushing everything around it. Since then, it has passed from artisan to adventurer, always presenting its new bearer with an obligation that seems trivial until the moment it matters.
