Wand of Inferno

โœจ Wand (wand) Very Rare
requires attunement by a spellcaster
Charges: 7 (regains at dawn)

A slender ash-black wand carved from obsidian and wrapped with copper-inlaid sigils that glow with ember-orange motes. Its tip is crowned with a pulsating ruby-like core that smolders faintly, always warm to the touch. The sigils depict flames dancing around a central torch, and when you flick it, wisps of heat escape as if the wand itself breathes fire.

Inferno Conduit The wand houses a core of living fire. While attuned, you can expend 1โ€“7 charges to unleash fire-based effects. The wand has 7 charges and regains 1d6+1 charges daily at dawn (minimum 1, maximum 7).
Conduit Spells Expending 1 charge: cast Burning Hands (5th-level equivalent) in a 15-foot cone; Dex save DC 15 for half; deals 4d6 fire damage on a failed save (half on success). Expending 2 charges: cast Scorching Ray as a 2nd-level spell; make separate ranged spell attacks for each ray (two rays at base, additional rays scale with level at DM's discretion). Expending 3 charges: cast Fireball as a 3rd-level spell (8d6 fire damage in 20-foot radius, no self-damage). Expending 5 charges: cast Wall of Fire as a 4th-level spell; creates a wall 60 feet long, 20 feet high, and 20 feet thick; lasts 1 minute. Expending 7 charges: unleash Inferno Nova, a centered explosion dealing 10d6 fire damage in a 20-foot radius, with a DC 17 Dexterity save for half.
Blazing Ward While you have 2 or more charges remaining, you gain fire resistance. This lasts until you expend charges down to 1 or until dawn; during this time, any fire damage you take is reduced by half (rounded down).

Lore

The Wand of Inferno was forged in the forge-temples of the Emberspire volcano, tempered by a phoenixโ€™s breath and bound to a pyromancer of legendary prowess. It passed through the hands of several dragon-scarred wizards who sought to bend the battlefield to their will, until a pitched duel ended with the wand sealing itself to a worthy wielder who could command both its restraint and its rage. Tales tell of cities saved by a single cast of Fireball from this wand at a crucial moment, and of armies reduced to ash when the Nova was unleashed at the height of a siege.

History

Crafted in a volcanic cavern, the wand absorbed the heat and fury of a legendary fire elemental during its forging. It subsequently changed hands from a fire-sorcerer king to a guild of arson-wizards who used it to shape volcanic battles, then vanished for decades before resurfacing with a new keeper who learned to balance its power with discipline. The current bearer is rumored to be a war-mage who survived a catastrophic firestorm you never expected to endure.
