Dragonsong Longsword
The Dragonsong Longsword is a blade of gleaming steel, its length etched with spiraling runes that resemble dragon scales. The grip is wrapped in blackened reptilian leather, and the crossguard is shaped like two dragon wings. When drawn, the sword emits a soft, crystalline hum that grows louder as dragons approach, vibrating to a higher pitch with larger dragons. The metal bears a faint iridescent sheen, shifting from steel-gray to a violet hue as the hum intensifies.
Lore
Forged in the dawn of dragon-sky worship by a guild of dragon-bonded smiths known as the Songsteel, the Dragonsong Longsword was meant to be a diplomat's bladeโunifying mortal and dragonkind through music and steel. It is said that dragons themselves can hear the instrument's song from miles away, and some metallic dragons reward its bearer with rare favors.
History
The blade's first owner was a human bardsman who wandered dragon-haunted peaks. It later passed to a dragon's herald who used the blade to broker uneasy truces between dragon factions and mortal kingdoms. In many battles, the sword's music warned of an approaching dragon and allowed retreat or preparation.
