Lore & Description
Appearance
A living sculpture of warm, reddish-brown clay, the Surgakor is featureless—a smooth, headless torso with countless circular holes pierced through its torso. When wind passes through these holes, they emit a constant, unsettling humming that seems to resonate with the very walls of the cavern. The creature shifts with slow, deliberate movements, its surface rippling as if breathing. Its form seems to reform and seal gaps as if the clay is constantly remolding itself to trap air and amplify sound.
Behavior & Origins
Surgakors are believed to be prisons of forgotten wind deities, shaped by subterranean currents. They wander cavern networks, using their hollowed bodies to sing with the wind. They are stubborn, patient predators, preferring to corral intruders into choke points where their humming can disorient and crush opposition. Speech is foreign to them; they communicate through a rustling, wind-like whisper that carries through the air within their reach. Adventurers in the Underdark tell tales of a headless figure that hums like a swarm of bees, the songs guiding the unwary toward or away from danger. When threatened, a Surgakor can vent a storm of air through its holes, turning a calm tunnel into a howling wind trap.
