The Dreadscript Quill
This slender quill is fashioned from the black flight feather of a raven and capped with tarnished silver. Its shaft is engraved with tiny, spiraling letters that seem to rearrange themselves when viewed from the corner of the eye. The nib is made from a needle-fine shard of smoky quartz, and it writes in dark violet ink even when dipped in an empty inkwell. The ink dries normally, but its final words often seem to tremble on the page.
Lore
The quill is said to have been created by a court scribe who grew tired of recording the lies of kings. Rather than expose falsehood directly, the scribe enchanted a single quill to reveal the fear hidden beneath every proclamation. In time, the quill became infamous for turning declarations of war into confessions of cowardice and love letters into admissions of abandonment.
History
The Dreadscript Quill was last known to belong to Meriel Vane, a royal archivist who used it only once, rewriting a treaty into a warning that the king feared his own heir. The altered treaty sparked a succession crisis and vanished during the ensuing palace fire. Rumors claim it now passes from spy to spy, treasured not for what it writes, but for whose secrets it has yet to uncover.
