(regains at dawn)
This slender teaspoon is fashioned from polished moon-silver, its bowl engraved with concentric ripples that never quite remain still. A tiny amber gemstone is set into the end of its handle, containing a swirling image of an eye, a wedding ring, a burning village, or some other memory meaningful to whoever holds it. When dipped into liquid, the spoon gives off the faint scent of rain on old stone, and the liquid briefly reflects scenes that have not yet been spoken aloud.
Memory Stirrer
The spoon can stir any liquid that a creature can drink, regardless of the liquid's consistency. As an action, you can stir a drink for 1 minute and expend 1 charge. A creature that drinks the liquid within the next minute must make a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw. A creature can choose to fail this saving throw. On a failed save, the creature vividly recalls the most significant memory connected to a question you ask while it drinks. The memory appears as a complete sensory recollection, including details the creature has forgotten, suppressed, or attempted to conceal. The creature cannot knowingly alter or falsify the memory, though the memory can still be incomplete or misinterpreted. The recollection lasts for up to 10 minutes and can be perceived by the creature and up to six creatures of your choice within 10 feet of it. On a successful save, the creature is unaffected and knows that the spoon attempted to examine its memories.
Unvarnished Truth
While attuned to the spoon, you have advantage on Wisdom (Insight) checks made to determine whether a creature is deliberately lying. In addition, whenever you knowingly speak a lie, the spoon produces a clear chiming sound audible to creatures within 10 feet of you. The sound does not reveal what was false, but it cannot be silenced by you.
Stirred Secrets
Once per long rest, when you finish stirring a drink for another creature, the spoon also reveals one concealed fact about you to that creature. The fact is chosen by the Dungeon Master and must be something you have deliberately hidden, denied, or refused to admit. The revelation appears as a brief, unmistakable memory from your own mind. If you have no such secret, the spoon instead reveals your strongest current fear.
Unaltered Remembrance
A memory revealed by the spoon displays signs of magical alteration, suppression, or implantation. The spoon does not restore the original memory, identify the responsible magic, or distinguish intentional alteration from natural distortion, but it reveals that the memory is unreliable and shows the altered portions as gaps, mismatched sensations, or contradictory images.
Lore
The Honest Teaspoon was made for Queen Merial of Vey, who feared that her counselors were concealing the truth about a growing rebellion. Her court alchemist created a utensil that could not merely detect lies, but expose the memories beneath them. The queen used it at a single banquet, after which every guest remembered a different betrayal. The rebellion ended, but so did the royal family, as the spoon's revelations destroyed every alliance holding the kingdom together.
History
According to surviving accounts, the spoon was crafted from silver melted from the crown of a disgraced monarch and amber taken from the tomb of a memory-worshiping saint. It vanished after Queen Merial's final banquet and has since appeared in the hands of inquisitors, grieving spouses, criminal investigators, and at least one innkeeper who used it to determine which patron kept stealing the teaspoons. Several owners have tried to destroy it; each attempt ended with the would-be destroyer remembering why they had secretly kept it.
