The Recollection Spoon

๐Ÿ”ฎ Wondrous Item (teaspoon) Rare
requires attunement by a creature proficient in either History or Insight

This delicate teaspoon is made from tarnished electrum, its bowl engraved with concentric ripples like a pond disturbed by a falling tear. A tiny blue sapphire forms the tip of its handle, containing a slowly turning image of an eye. When held near a sleeping creature, faint silhouettes of forgotten faces drift across the polished metal. The spoon is always slightly warm, as though it has just been lifted from a cup of tea.

Stirred Remembrance As an action, you can touch the spoon to a creature's forehead or stir it through a liquid the creature drinks. The target must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom saving throw or vividly relive one memory of your choice from the last 24 hours. The memory lasts up to 10 minutes and is perceived exactly as the target experienced it, including sights, sounds, smells, and emotions. An unwilling creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success.
Memory Steeping Once per long rest, you can stir the spoon clockwise in a cup of liquid for 1 minute, naming a person, place, or event. For the next hour, the first creature that drinks the liquid receives a hazy but truthful recollection connected to that subject, if such a memory exists within the drinker's mind. The recollection can reveal only information the drinker personally perceived and cannot create knowledge that was never remembered.
Borrowed Moment Once per dawn, when a creature within 30 feet makes an ability check using Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma, you can use your reaction to stir the spoon through the air. The creature gains advantage on the check as a suddenly recalled detail sharpens its thoughts.
The Owner's Claim The spoon's former owner, a memory-obsessed archmage named Vellisar Quill, can sense the spoon's direction and approximate distance while it is within 10 miles. Once every seven days, Vellisar can cause the spoon to whisper a brief request to be returned, audible only to its attuned wielder. The voice may be ignored, but each ignored request makes the next whisper more insistent and emotionally vivid.

Lore

The Recollection Spoon was crafted to help Vellisar Quill recover memories lost during a magical experiment. Instead, it taught him that memories could be stirred, separated, flavored, and served to others like tea. Nobles used it to revisit vanished romances, inquisitors used it to question witnesses, and Vellisar used it to preserve the final thoughts of dying friends. The spoon eventually disappeared after one of those friends remembered something Vellisar had desperately tried to forget.

History

Vellisar Quill gave the spoon to an adventurer named Mara Duskettle in exchange for a promise to destroy a memory hidden inside it. Mara fled instead, selling the spoon several times before it vanished into a merchant's collection. Vellisar has spent the last decade tracking it across the realms. He wants it returned not merely because it is valuable, but because the spoon currently contains a memory of his own that he cannot access without it.
