Lore & Description
Appearance
A corpse dragged through the bogs, its flesh fused with clay and silt. The body is a sagging, mud-caked husk, with sunken eyes that shift with every breath of swamp air. A damp, earthy stench clings to it as whispers of the drowned seem to echo from within the mud. When perfectly still, it looks no more alive than a pile of ooze; when spoken to in Common or a language it understands, it slowly claws its way free from the muck and attacks with brutal, swamp-soaked strikes.
Behavior & Origins
In the murky depths of peat bogs and marshes, the mud-drowned corpse waits. It remains perfectly silent until a living creature dares to speak to it, at which point it awakens with a wet sigh and lashes out with mud-bound limbs. It haunts those who call it by name, feeding on the fear of conversation and the desperation of travelers who think to barter with the dead. Some say the whispers of drowned souls cling to the mud, guiding this revenant to those who speak carelessly in its presence.
