Lore & Description
Appearance
A serpentine creature born from the god’s own discarded skin, this living shed coils with oily green scales that shimmer with a faint divine glow. Its maw contains a hidden cluster of fangs set in a seam of flexible hide, and it moves with a hunted grace that belies its terrifying hunger. The skin itself seems to pulse with concealed life, as if a god’s breath still lingers in every fold. When it strikes, venomous bite and a constricting tail pin prey, while the shed itself can detach and writhe away, misdirecting foes and leading pursuers into the shadows of the forest and swamp. It seeks to avenge the god it once wore and to punish those who would profane its memory.
Behavior & Origins
When a serpent god fell, a single shrouded layer of its essence clung to the world as a living relic. This Exuvia, a sentient shed skin, survived by feeding on the reverence and fear surrounding the god’s name. It hunts those who desecrate temples or steal relics of the deity, believing such acts condemn the divine to oblivion anew. It speaks in serpentine whispers and can mimic voices of priests to lure intruders into traps. Its true danger lies not only in its bites and constricting tail, but in the living skin that can detach and reappear elsewhere, turning battle into a brutal game of hide and strike. To defeat the Exuvia, adventurers must honor the god’s memory and appease the wrath of the living shed, for the skin’s life is bound to the god’s legacy and will not be easily quenched.
