Lore & Description
Appearance
A demon that can only be seen by those it has killed. The Visage appears as a void-black silhouette wreathed in smoke, with ember-red eyes that glow briefly when it senses fear. It drifts with jerky, unsettling motions, leaving a coppery tang in the air. In combat it strikes from shadow, its claws slicing through darkness, and when it uses its necrotic grasp, the air chills as if memory itself is being torn away. The living cannot perceive it unless they have been its victim; those who have died at its hands can glimpse the demon in the afterlife, but the sight cannot be shared with the living. Its presence seems to feed on the fear and memory of those it has slain, growing more terrible with each death it has woven into its legend.
Behavior & Origins
The Visage of the Slain is an ancient demon that hunts by stealing the last sight of its victims. Those it has slain can perceive it in the moment of death, while the living cannot. It haunts battlefields as a roving memory, striking with silence and spectral force. To defeat it, a party must confront the memory of their own deaths and resist the despair it reverberates through the surrounding air. Stories say the Visage feeds on fear, growing stronger as more souls are consumed by its blade and its gaze.
