Actions
Legendary Actions
The dragon can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature's turn. The dragon regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.
Lair
Lair Actions
On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), the creature can take a lair action to cause one of the following effects; it can't use the same effect two rounds in a row:
- Umbral Surge. At initiative count 20 and 10, the lair floods with shifting shadow. Creatures other than Umbraquorath treat dim light as darkness; within 60 feet, attack rolls against Umbraquorath have disadvantage for 1 round.
- Tremor of the Shadow Continent. The ground trembles within 120 feet. Each unsecured creature must succeed on a DC 23 Dexterity saving throw or be knocked prone.
- Wisp of the World-Sketch. A moving silhouette of a continental coast crawls along walls and floor, imposing disadvantage on ranged attack rolls against Umbraquorath and blurring its outline for 1 round.
Regional Effects
The region containing the creature's lair is warped by its magic, creating the following effects:
- Within 6 miles of Umbraquorath's lair, perpetual twilight blankets the land; daylight reduces to dusk in an instant and shadows stretch unnaturally long.
- Pools and rivers near the lair run with a faint, silvery ichor; creatures traveling through may feel faint visions of distant shores.
- The continent-spanning shadow exerts physical influence, causing cliffs to sheath in crackling dark crystal and tremors when the dragon rouses.
If Umbraquorath dies, the continent-shadow recedes to a normal dragon shadow over 1d10 days, and the perpetual twilight gradually fades to regular daylight.

Lore & Description
Appearance
Umbraquorath is a gargantuan dragon whose iridescent scales drink light, lacquered in obsidian sheen. Its massive wings cast a shadow wider than entire continents, a living silhouette that follows its movements across the world. The shadow is not just optical: it stretches, envelops, and sometimes appears to act on its own, as if the dragonโs darkness possesses a will of its own. When it expands its shadow, mountains darken, coastlines vanish beneath shadowy seas, and the ground seems to bend to Umbraquorath's gaze. Its breath is a cone of inky, necrotic energy that drains the life and light from anything it touches. Legends say the shadow began as a fragment of an elder abyssal entity, grown with the dragon's hunger for dominion over light and land.
Behavior & Origins
Umbraquorath was hatched in a dragon-ruled age when shadows stretched across continents like long rivers. It learned to bend its own shadow into a separate, semi-sentient presence that can manipulate gloom and silence, effectively creating a battlefield where the entire world feels diminished. To face Umbraquorath is to contend with both the dragon and the living continent-sized shadow it commandsโone cannot attack the dragon without risking a strike from the spreading darkness that seeks to swallow light itself.
