Lore & Description
Appearance
A dragon-like predator with emerald scales flecked with amber, a spiked crest, and a hooded jaw that opens to reveal a swelling cloud of biting insects in place of a traditional breath. Its wings are dark and membranous, with stinging insects trailing between the leathery folds. The insect swarm seems to escape with every exhale, a living cloud that bites at intruders and leaves them itching and coughing from the swarm.
Behavior & Origins
The Insectbreath Dragon haunts forested and rocky highlands, a terror that turns its breath into a living swarm. Instead of fire, it releases a ravenous cloud of gnats, wasps, and beetles that bites and stings, taking advantage of the confusion to strike. Legends tell of plains-sweeping swarms that descend upon adventurers who dared pollute a sacred grove, forcing them to flee or fall to the relentless bite of the swarm.
