Lore & Description
Appearance
The Aerialfin is a skeletal fish that haunts the skies above shores and salt-sprayed cliffs. Its bones are bleached white, fins ossified into rigid sails that catch the wind. It glides through the air as if it were water, undulating with a sinuous motion, fins gleaming with a pearl-like sheen. When it lunges, it snaps its jaw with toothy remnants, delivering a chilling bite that tastes of brine. It can dive through cloud banks as if entering kelp forests, and its presence portends storms.
Behavior & Origins
Long ago, a reef-dweller of legendary hunger fell to a necromantic storm that corrupted water-borne life into wind-born dread. The Aerialfin roams coastal air, hunting sailors and gulls, lured by the scent of fear and the whisper of lost ships. Its skeletal frame can drift along currents of air as easily as a fish glides through water. Only those who respect the sea and the sky can survive its ambushes; the Aerialfin yields fear and misfortune to those who seek to out-sail it.
