Lore & Description
Appearance
Deadbark Dryads are twisted remnants of once-luminous forest guardians. Their bark is a ashy, charcoal-black, textured like dried charcoal, with mossy tufts that cling to crevices. Their leaves are withered, rust-colored, and emit a faint, funerary scent. Their eyes glow faintly with a sickly green light, and their limbs creak like old timber as they move. They favor shadowed glades crowded with deadfall and ancient trees where life and decay intertwine. They lash out with living wood, draining vitality and binding foes with necrotic vines.
Behavior & Origins
Deadbark Dryads incarnate a corruption of the forestโs spirit. Once protectors of glades and groves, they have fallen under a blight that feeds on death and rot. They prefer haunted, dead-wood forests where decay runs thick through the soil. They lure wanderers into areas of old, hollow trees, where their whispers promise safe passage if the traveler shares a story of loss. In combat, they blend into the deadwood and strike with brutal efficiency, seeking to sap the life from intruders and bind them to the forestโs decaying heart.
