Lair Actions
On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), the creature can take a lair action to cause one of the following effects; it can't use the same effect two rounds in a row:
- Rearrange the Workplace. At initiative count 20, Mister Stitch causes one door, window, or passage in the lair to slide, rotate, or vanish behind a newly formed wall. Until initiative count 20 on the next round, the chosen route is blocked and another route within 30 feet opens. Creatures in a space occupied by the rearranging structure are moved to the nearest unoccupied space and must succeed on a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw or fall prone.
- No Final Farewells. At initiative count 20, one creature Mister Stitch can see within 60 feet must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw or be unable to willingly move farther than 20 feet from Mister Stitch until initiative count 20 on the next round. The creature hears every crow in the lair whispering, 'You haven't signed out yet.'
- Solidarity Picket. At initiative count 20, a flock of crows fills a 10-foot-square space Mister Stitch can see within 60 feet. The area is heavily obscured until initiative count 20 on the next round, and any creature that enters it for the first time on a turn must succeed on a DC 13 Dexterity saving throw or take 3 (1d6) slashing damage.

Lore & Description
Appearance
Mister Stitch is a lanky scarecrow assembled from weather-faded burlap, black wool, and mismatched work gloves. His head is a lopsided sack painted with a wide, crooked smile, while two polished crow skulls serve as shoulder ornaments. Barley straw spills from his sleeves and neck in bristling golden tangles. A red union sash, stitched with a black-feather emblem, crosses his chest. Crows perch on him constantly, nesting in his ribs and hanging from his crooked wooden arms like living epaulets.
Behavior & Origins
Mister Stitch was built to frighten crows from the fields, but he instead negotiated with them over seed access, safe nesting sites, and reasonable working hours. He now leads the Blackfeather Local, a disciplined flock that sabotages cruel farmers and evicts anyone who mistreats birds. His abandoned granary headquarters, called the Hall of Perpetual Adjournment, rearranges its rooms whenever someone tries to leave after a heartfelt farewell. Mister Stitch wants to secure a permanent charter for every crow in the valley and is seeking the signature of Magistrate Elian Voss, whose missing inkpot is currently hidden inside the scarecrow's chest.
Running Mister Stitch, Crow Union Organizer
Tactics
Mister Stitch opens with Crow Grievance against the most dangerous-looking warrior or spellcaster, then uses Multiattack against frightened targets. He fights near corners, doors, and dense furniture so his lair actions can separate pursuers and block escape routes. When bloodied, he uses Straw-Stuffed Tenacity to retreat through a rearranged passage; he fights to the death only if the Blackfeather Local is threatened or someone possesses Magistrate Voss's signature.
DM Tips
- Telegraph danger with crows wearing tiny red threads around their legs, chalked workplace rules, and doors that lead somewhere different each time they open.
- Roleplay Mister Stitch as a patient, procedural negotiator who pauses combat to cite bylaws and asks crows to 'record that objection.'
- The crows should be noisy but organized: they count rounds, steal unattended weapons, and loudly announce violations of the agreement.
- For a weaker party, remove the reaction and use only one lair action per encounter; for a stronger party, give Mister Stitch 10 temporary hit points when the crows successfully use Solidarity Picket.
Loot
- Blackfeather Union Charter — A weatherproof parchment bearing hundreds of crow claw marks. Presenting it to sympathetic druids or farmers can earn safe passage through the valley, while exploiting its clauses may let a character command the local crows once.
- Mister Stitch's Red Sash — A reinforced sash embroidered with black feathers. It smells faintly of smoke and grain and is recognized by crows as a symbol of peaceful negotiation.
- Magistrate Voss's Inkpot — A silver inkpot hidden in the scarecrow's straw chest. Its ink never dries, and its owner will pay handsomelyโor send armed agentsโto recover it.
