Lore & Description

Appearance

A flock of animated books hovers in a skein of whispering dust. The covers are bound in dark leather, edges gilded, pages yellowed with age. Each book is a mouth of ink and toothlike quills; they wheel in a tight cloud and lash out when a reader pries open a volume.

Behavior & Origins

In old city libraries, a curse or cult of librarians bound knowledge so tightly that it refused to be read by careless hands. When a reader opens a book carelessly, scores of volumes turn into a living flock that bites fingers and devours reading time. They guard tomes of forbidden lore and feed on curiosity.
