Lore & Description
Appearance
A towering construct standing about nine feet tall, clad in rusted brass plates with segments of obsidian-like armor. Its chest is lined with six glass cylinders, each containing a swirling, translucent soul that writhes as if trying to escape. The cylinders are sealed with iron stoppers etched with runes, and a maddening whisper leaks from the glass whenever the automaton moves. Its gait is jerky and mechanical, as if driven by a corrosive chorus of voices. When it speaks, the voice is a hollow, overlapping chorus—faint at first, but growing louder as the souls intensify their scream. A pale blue-green glow leaks from the cylinders, casting eerie reflections on its metal flesh.
Behavior & Origins
forged in a crumbling workshop where artificers sought to weaponize suffering, the Echoengine binds the souls of enemies, criminals, and victims alike into glass cylinders. The louder the screams, the more power the engine draws from their anguish, turning that pain into motion, heat, and force. Whoever commands it must contend with the choir: the more the engine powers, the more the surrounding area echoes with the ghosts of those trapped within. Some say the engine feeds on fear, others that it amplifies it—making it a weapon of psychological as well as physical devastation. The engine’s presence is a warning: to hear its chorus is to feel your own heartbeat sync with the screams of the damned.
