Lore & Description
Appearance
A living spell given flesh and hatred: at a glance, it appears as a lean humanoid sewn together from faded parchment, its skin a shifting mosaic of arcane sigils that glow with pale blue ink. Its eyes are glyphs that burn with cold light, and its mouth bears fragments of old runes that whisper whenever it speaks. The sigils writhe across its body and leak warmth that feels like liquid magic. When it moves, the air crackles with the scent of ozone and old pages. The Wretch speaks in a language of clacking quills and chimes, and every time it lands a hit, a stray word of a spell it wove fills the air like a sigh of dying syllables.
Behavior & Origins
The Spellbound Wretch was once a scholar whose life was consumed by a single, forbidden incantation. In a fit of hubris, the mage attempted to bind a cataclysmic spell into a mortal body so that it could never be forgotten. The spell took, but the mage's hatred for failure remained, seeping into the flesh and turning the living vessel into a nightmare that embodies a spell's will and desire. The Wretch hunts those who bend magic to selfish ends, and it feeds on spells miscast, growing more potent as it absorbs the mistakes and regrets of spellcasters. It dwells where wild magic bloomsโruins, crumbling towers, and places where wards are brokenโand it seeks to convert broken incantations into its own flesh and a weapon.
