Lore & Description
Appearance
The Maskweaver is a lithe, pallid figure whose skin holds the color of ash. A crown of hollow eye sockets spirals along its brow, from which drift drifting, porcelain-like masks—each a face it has stolen. Its hands are long and dexterous, ending in nails like chipped obsidian. When it moves, it seems to glide, as if it wears the faces of others like a shifting cloak. It speaks in a chorus of voices, sometimes speaking as the target it has stolen, sometimes as a stranger entirely. Its presence leaves those nearby unsettled, as if a memory they cannot quite place is slipping away.
Behavior & Origins
In forgotten groves and ruined settlements, the Maskweaver hunts for faces. It does not use its victims’ identities to gain powers; instead, the faces are tokens of memory—tools for projection and misdirection. The creature forgets how to wield a stolen face the moment it uses it, as though the memory of the face dissolves into fog in its mind. Thus, it collects more masks, forever chasing the thrill of a convincing disguise while its own sense of self frays at the edges.
