Lore & Description
Appearance
A living campfire that hides as a campfire when at rest. Its crust resembles charred wood and a hot ember core; flickering flames form a maw-like shape with teeth of blackened coal. It undulates with heat shimmer, gifting a warm glow yet a perilous hunger. In true form, it can stretch a membranous tongue and pale blue pseudopods to grab prey, while in campfire form it glows with warm orange and gold hues, inviting travelers to come closer to rest.
Behavior & Origins
The campfire mimic lures travelers with the comforting glow of a campfire. It uses its shapechanging ability to imitate a harmless hearth, encouraging adventurers to draw near and sleep. Once within reach, it lashes with embers or traps prey in a fiery maw. It seeks to feed on warmth and fuel, raiding camps to keep its flame alive and ever-burning.
