Lore & Description
Appearance
Gloomtide Horror stands as a nightmarish mass of flesh and countless writhing tentacles, a glistening, sickly black-silver sheen covering a bloated, bulbous core. Its surface is a mosaic of pulsating orifices and slick, sinewy tissue that seems to breathe with a slow, nauseating rhythm. Tentacles of varying lengths slither and coil from the main body, each tip tipped with a barbed, suction-cuplike pad. The whole form exudes a perpetual oozing sheen, and its mere presence twists the air with a sour, metallic tang. The Horror exudes a palpable sense of revulsion and dread; even the bravest adventurers feel their stomachs churn and resolve crumble when it draws near.
Behavior & Origins
Whispers tell of a corruption that began as a loathsome experiment of a long-forgotten cult, a living nightmare designed to harvest fear and despair. Instead, it grew into a sentient mass of tissue and sinewโan abomination that feeds on the memories and nightmares of those who witness it. The Gloomtide Horror lurches from the dark corners of the Underdark, creeping along walls and ceilings, always seeking new minds to torment and imprison within its undulating mass. It does not seek sex or sexuality; it seeks to corrupt perception itself, to multiply abhorrent sensations until the mind breaks. Those who survive speak of a constant, creeping sensation of being watched by innumerable, lidless eyes that exist only in the edge of vision.
