Lore & Description
Appearance
A being that appears as a shifting, ink-black figure cloaked in tattered pages and derelict letters. Its face is a blank mask with faint, reversed letters that wisp away like smoke when it breathes. Its hands seem to melt into the air, but when it touches a creature, you can feel the 'ending' of that being—its story, its fate—drain away. It moves with unsettling grace, as if a page is turning in a wind that only it can hear. It speaks rarely, in a voice like rustling parchment, and it asks for endings—ones that have not yet occurred or have already arrived—so it can eat them and leave the world with new beginnings only for others to decide.
Behavior & Origins
The End-Devourer is a sentient manifestation born from a cosmic belief that endings are both inevitable and consumable. Tales must end, yet every ending seeds a new beginning. This being hunts endings—whether a final line in an ancient manuscript, the closure of a dying ritual, or the last breath of a fading legend—and consumes them to sustain itself. It is drawn to those who seek to control their destinies, often appearing where stories are written, concluded, or revoked. Courageous travelers might parley with it, offering endings of their own to spare others, or risk being erased from the fabric of a tale entirely.
